Boulder, Colorado, August 4, 2008.

BiOptix, a privately held company commercializing new technologies for rapid, sensitive, label-free detection of biomarkers, announced today appointment of Dr. Phil McMahon as a Chief Science Officer.

We are pleased to add Phil McMahon as the newest member of our management team," said Dr Misha Plam, CEO and Founder of BiOptix and added: “His broad business experience in the field of medical diagnostics and his scientific record of developing new, high value technologies over the past 25 years will contribute enormously to our pursuit of commercially significant applications of the BiOptix molecular detection technology.”

Prior to joining BiOptix Phil McMahon served as Director of Research and Development at IDEXX Laboratories and VP of Operations at Biostar. In the early 1990's, he joined Amgen, Inc., where he introduced new diagnostic tests for cytokines and other clinically relevant markers. In his career in diagnostics he has participated in the development, manufacture and support of over two dozen diagnostic products in six different delivery formats in the areas of infectious diseases, contaminant and residues, and other biological markers.

Backgrounder BiOptix, formerly AlphaSniffer, established in 2003, is developing a proprietary technology for real-time, sensitive, label-free detection of medically and commercially important molecules such as DNA, proteins, toxins, contaminants and other compounds. Applications using this broad technology platform include real-time detection instruments for markets such as medical research, personalized medicine and diagnostics, pharmaceutical process control, defense and homeland security, and numerous other industrial demands. The core technology, known as SPR-CPI, was invented at AlphaSniffer by Dr. John Hall, 2005 Physics Nobel Prize Laureate, Slava Petropavlovskikh, and Dr. Oyvind Nilsen. Having established proof of principle through development of several functional prototypes and surface chemistries, the company is now extending the capabilities of its instruments by engineering a medium density array system.
